Professional Development
Professional development is necessary to the successful implementation of any new program or technology. In order for implementation to be a success, all members of the faculty must receive appropriate training. During the initial stages, the Technology Team will meet with the administration of the school. During this meeting they will introduce the ELMO and all of its features. The Technology Team would explain and discuss the reason why the ELMO was chosen and how the ELMO is intended to be used in order to assist with the goal of increasing student achievement, and thus test scores. The Technology Team would also explain the four year tiered plan for the ELMO to become standard equipment in all classrooms at CRHS. Lastly, the Technology Team will explain how the implementation will help the school’s staff meet both the Delaware State Content Standards as well as the ISTE Technology Standards which had been addressed at a previous meeting.

Prior to the first wave of the four year plan, the school’s Technology Team and each department’s chair will attend a training seminar for the ELMO provided by the district’s Technology Liaison. During this meeting and each meeting with staff, the staff will be reminded of the purpose of this major purchase and focused on the goal of meeting student needs in order to increase student academic achievement through the use of the ELMO technology. In addition, the the staff will be informed fo the correlation between the use of ELMO and the ISTE Technology Standards. After receiving training, the school’s Technology Team will partner with the department chairs to create the ELMO Training Team. The ELMO Team will train the school’s first group of teachers to be assigned ELMO units. The ELMO Team will then continue to train the remaining teachers in groups of ten or less until all teachers have been trained. Although not all teachers will be receiving an ELMO during the first year, all teachers will be trained because they will be able to loan one out from their Department Chair. In addition, the training is meant to increase the excitement and interest in the new Technology and enourage its use to continue throughout and beyond the four year implementation period.

Prior to giving the first wave of teachers their ELMOs, the Technology Team will install the supplied Image Mate Software onto each teacher’s classroom laptop which will be used in combination with the ELMO. The teachers receiving ELMOs will once again be briefed on the goals of the program.. The teachers will also fill out and sign a signout sheet that states that they have received an ELMO. The ELMO’s serial # will be noted for record keeping purposes. At the end of each school year teachers will be responsible for turning in the ELMO to be stored for the summer to avoid damage or theft. The Technology Team will keep track of all ELMOs received by the school, signed in or signed out by teachers, and for requesting and documenting service in accordance with the ELMO warranty and service plan. Training will continue throughout the year in the form of monthly updates during department meetings, emails, occasional classroom visits, and additional time during in-service days. The following is an overview of the professional development implementation plan.
